What Will Happen To Eli Manning?

The future of New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is remarkably unclear for a two-time Super Bowl MVP. The 33 year old will be a free agent at the conclusion of the 2015 season. There’s no question the Giants can win with him, but due to recent struggles over the past two seasons, will the Giants look to rebuild?

Manning is coming off a bad day, but is having a good season for the Giants. He has been the established starter for the Giants since 2004, and he has been everything the Giants had hoped for since drafting him. He’s a Super Bowl hero, a class act, and the definition of a hardworking professional.

It’s possible if the Giants part ways with head coach Tom Coughlin, that change will be imminent. Would Manning want to wait around for the Giants to grow? The franchise has a lot of major decisions surrounding the future of the club. They will likely wait out until the end of the season, however, until they make any huge decisions.

Giants fans would be blessed if Manning stays. He has more good years ahead, but the team needs upgrades up front on both sides of the ball if they wish to hope to contend for a Super Bowl. If Manning played for a team like the Arizona Cardinals or the St. Louis Rams, they would have a very good chance at contending. If the Giants traded Manning, they could address the issues that this club has. They likely could get a ton of draft picks.

The Giants could acquire a premiere defensive end, an outside linebacker that can do well in pass coverage, wide receivers to play alongside Odell Beckham, and a truly dominant offensive line. They could get back to Giants’ football the way it used to be: winning games in the trenches.

However, if Manning greatly desires to remain with the Giants, he’ll simply have to accept that he’ll make less money in New York in comparison to elsewhere. It’s at that point where a team that’s desperate for a quarterback would likely pay more than the Giants would to keep Manning.

There is undoubtedly a conversation between John Mara and Manning that’s upcoming during the offseason. Communication is key. There are a lot of different ways this could go. Everybody’s desires need to be discussed and addressed. It’s likely that a heavy bearing on the future of Manning depends on what happens with the 67-year-old Coughlin.

A lot can happen. Seeing Manning wear anything other than Giants blue would be heartbreaking for true Giants fans, but if the team can acquire a lot for Manning, they simply have to consider dealing him before his free agency upon the conclusion of the 2015 season. Otherwise, they’ll get nothing for him.

But would Ryan Nassib be ready to play quarterback in the NFL? Would the Giants elect to get someone else to start under center? The chain of events that would occur following a Manning departure would be astronomical, and the amount of questions surrounding the team even higher.

Manning is arguably a Hall of Famer at this very moment. He already has similar numbers and accolades as current members. No matter what happens, Giants fans should cherish the amount of effort he has always put into being a part of this franchise.

This is a dark discussion that many Giants fans are afraid to have, and it’s also wildly premature. There are six games left in the season that will reveal a lot about who stays and who goes in New York. The Giants know they could get a lot for Manning, and may not even wish to do it from a standpoint of professionalism and loyalty.

It’s all unknown. It’s been rough for Giants fans as of late, and the fans aren’t that used to it. The Coughlin-Manning era has been overall a very successful one. No matter what happens on the business side of things, there will always be a spot for those two names on the walls of MetLife Stadium, and in the Giants Hall of Fame.
