Howard Smith - US PRESSWIRE

In an interview with Monday Night Football’s Lisa Salters, Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson admitted that he didn’t try his hardest throughout the 2011 season.

In fact, here are Jackson’s exact words: “I let it get to me, even though I tried not to let it. I was trying to protect myself from getting hurt — now I’m just giving it all.”

I know. It’s shocking. I was blown away by the news too. (That is sarcasm.)

My memories of Jackson from 2011 consist of a training camp holdout that lasted 12 days, a benching against the Arizona Cardinals after an alarm clock failed to go off, and multiple dropped touchdown passes against the New England Patriots that led to a benching.

All in all, it was easily his worst season.

Yeah, you’ve got to appreciate Jackson’s honesty. San Francisco Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera could take a lesson here.

But some things are best just not talked about, and that’s how I view Jackson’s 2011 season. Let’s just move on from it and focus on 2012.

It’s time for Jackson to turn in his best season. Jackson got his huge contract extension during the offseason. He’s focused, ready, happy, and motivated to play football.

The Eagles have put a lot of pressure on themselves this season, mostly by talking too much during the offseason, and it’s time for last year’s Dream Team to turn into a Super Bowl champion this year.

Jackson caught 58 passes for 961 yards and four touchdowns last year. It’s time for the 25-year old to post a 1300-yard, 10-touchdown season in 2012.
