Well that didn’t take long. Just a day after the Philadelphia Flyers saw their hopes of Shea Weber sporting a black and orange sweater crushed, they’ve already moved in on signing their own restricted free agent, Jakub Voracek.

Voracek’s name has been out there in trade rumors a bit, in a deal for Weber, as well as potentially Bobby Ryan. But the Flyers have also remained in contact with Voracek’s camp throughout the summer and see him as an important part of the team.

Potential terms of the deal haven’t been really discussed, but Voracek is looking for something long term. He shouldn’t see too large of an increase from the $3.25 million he was already making in his first year with the Flyers.

With limited depth on the right wing, it’s very likely that Voracek will slot in on the top line next to Claude Giroux and Scott Hartnell. His playmaking skills should suit both of them very nicely this season.

Though it’s not the big move that many have been hoping for, locking up Jakub Voracek is a very nice move, and an important one, for Philly, as they’ve lost plenty on the offensive side of things this summer. He’s a dependable two-way guy and is still young, so we haven’t seen him quite reach his potential yet.

It will be interesting to see where the Flyers head once they do officially sign Voracek. With him in the fold, and some of the young guys seeing increased roles, the Flyers may look more to defense for the remainder of the summer. Could Keith Yandle end up a target? that would seem like the most logical route. Stay tuned.
