The Philadelphia Phillies have activated Cliff Lee from the 15-day disabled list in time for his start tonight against the New York Mets. To make room for Lee on the active roster, the Phillies have optioned relief pitcher Michael Schwimer down to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Lee was on the DL after injuring his oblique in the 10th inning of a start against the San Francisco Giants. In that outing, Lee became the first major league pitcher in seven seasons to throw 10 shutout innings in one game. Lee was on the DL longer than anticipated, but he will be ready to return tonight.

Lee is 0-1 with a 1.96 ERA on the season, having struck out 18 batters and walked just two in 23 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Schwimer is 0-1 with a 8.53 ERA and five walks against just three strikeouts in 6.1 innings. Schwimer has failed to make an impact in his brief stint with the team, even though he has been dominating in Triple-A.

Lee gets a good opportunity to help the Phillies avoid a three-game sweep tonight at the hands of the New York Mets. Lee is in the second season of a five-year, $120 million contract, and even though he is 33 years old, Lee is still one of the top pitchers in the game. He won the AL Cy Young award in 2008, going 22-3 with a 2.54 ERA plus 170 strikeouts in 223.1 innings pitched.
