Seth Rollins Is A Super Villain

Last week on Monday Night RAW, Seth Rollins succeeded in his goal to force John Cena to bring back The Authority. Edge and Christian were guest general managers for the evening’s festivities and things were light-hearted and jovial, as they tend to be when the two former brothers — and now just long-time best friends — get together. Mr. Money in the Bank was not about to let them have all the fun, and as he has been wont to do, Rollins took advantage of the opportunity he was given and spoiled all the fun.

He spoiled the fun that Edge and Christian were having, at least. In the final segment of the final RAW of the year, Seth Rollins was the guest on the first ever Cutting Edge Peep Show. After some fantastic gladhanding and faux niceties, Seth cut to the chase and took matters into his own hands. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon were going to come back to power or Edge was going to lose his ability to walk — simple and to the point.

When John Cena finally ran down to make the save, the Architect of The Shield became a monster. We’re talking full bore, all engines firing, take the fate of an entire city into his grasp super villain. And it was masterful. Seth’s repetitive use of “John” began to make me feel legitimately uncomfortable. I always knew that he had the ability to become a big star, but after last Monday, I am now fully convinced that Seth Rollins, if the rug doesn’t get pulled out from under him, will be the big heel that can carry WWE through the foreseeable future.

Chances are that at some point before the angle with The Authority is finished once and for all (by summer’s end at the latest, hopefully), Rollins will end up finding himself on the opposite side, having been screwed by Triple H and Stephanie or just coming to his senses and leaving them behind. He will have a run as a face, possibly even being one of the key factors in getting rid of them, before pulling a quick 180 that makes the fans hate him even more than before. Once they are out, he will be able to take the spot that he has earned as the top man on the totem pole.

The talk of somebody taking away CM Punk’s claim to being the longest reigning champion in the past 25 years fits quite perfectly into this scenario. Rollins could use the MITB contract to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in an underhanded and dastardly way. When he turns face, he can lament about the error of his ways and state that he will start defending the title like a true fighting champion, but he will end up getting away with defending it very infrequently due to his allegiance to the WWE superstars in their fight against The Authority.

Once the balance of power has been restored, he can reveal that his move to the light side was all just a way to take the heat off himself for a bit while he worked on having the spotlight turned directly toward him; getting rid of Mister and Missus Triple H wasn’t his way of helping the company, as Rollins only wanted to ensure that they were out of the picture so the focus could be solely put on him. The title reign can be over 500 days long (or just 435 days, just so the powers that be can feel like they are really sticking it to Punk) and Rollins can not only become the mainstay top heel, but also make somebody else in the process by dropping the title.

It’s a win-win situation, but of course Rollins wins most of all, because that is what super villains do.
