Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Cam Newton established a reputation during his brief time at Auburn as a player with a cocky attitude–which the argument can be made he had every right to after winning the National Championship and the Heisman Trophy. So when he’s already making a comparison to himself and one of the NFL’s all-time greats in New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady two games into his NFL career–it really shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Courtesy of our friends at ESPN’s SportsNation, Newton recently said, “Tom Brady is good, real good…but he plays in same league as I do.” Through the first two weeks of the 2011 regular season, Brady (940 passing yards) and Newton (854 passing yards) rank at the top of the league when it comes to passing yards–but the rookie needs to slow down a bit before making ridiculous statements about being on the same level as the future Hall of Fame quarterback.

Newton has developed quicker than anyone expected so far and became the first player in NFL history to throw for over 400 yards in his first two career starts–but he’s still got plenty of work to do before he’s even close to comparing himself to Brady. For starters, Newton’s impressive numbers aren’t as meaningful considering Carolina is still looking for their first win of the 2011 season–not to mention Brady’s a two-time MVP and three-time Super Bowl winner.
