How Much Longer Until Browns RB Peyton Hillis Officially Gets Labeled With the Madden Curse?
(Michael Hickey/US PRESSWIRE)

This year, the folks at EA Sports decided to change things up a bit by allowing the fans vote for which player they wanted to see on the cover of Madden 12–which ended up being Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis. It was debatable whether or not Hillis deserved to be on the cover after just one impressive season in 2010 and now–the former Arkansas star appears to be on the verge of receiving the official “Madden Curse” label for the 2011 season.

For those of you unfamiliar with the story of being on the cover of the popular video game, many players believe being featured on the cover of Madden is a jinx for the upcoming season. Daunte Culpepper, Donovan McNabb, Michael Vick, and Marshall Faulk are just a few of the unfortunate victims of the curse and considering how things have gone during the first half of the season, it looks like Hillis is on his way to becoming the club’s newest member.

Heading into Week 9, Hillis has been limited to just four games while dealing with a hamstring injury. In those four games, Hillis has managed just 211 yards on the ground to go along with two touchdowns–so he’s clearly nowhere near the dominant level he was at a year ago.

And to make things worse, Hillis’ status for Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans is up in the air after re-injuring his hamstring during practice on Friday. Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer was on the scene when the injury happened and said Hillis was so frustrated he threw his helmet and football to the ground right after it happened–which sums up how this season has gone so far for the running back.

So how much longer until Hillis can officially receive the label of being the latest victim of the Madden Curse? While the curse shouldn’t be the entire reason behind Hillis’ struggles, it’s difficult not to connect the two considering how many times this has happened to players over the years.

Then again, maybe it was wrong for Hillis to be on the cover in the first place and he was nothing but a one-hit wonder in the NFL.
