Report: Vikings to Release QB Donovan McNabb
As if the 2011 season hasn’t been difficult enough for Donovan McNabb, it looks like the quarterback is about to hit another low point of his career–being released by the Minnesota Vikings.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Vikings plan on releasing McNabb on Thursday after trading for the veteran quarterback during the offseason. After struggling over the first six games by throwing for just 1,026 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions, McNabb was replaced by rookie Christian Ponder at starting quarterback to give him more experience now to benefit him down the road.
Obviously, this should come as no surprise considering there was really no point in keeping McNabb around beyond the 2011 season. The only reason Minnesota brought McNabb on board in the first place was the intention of him being the short-term answer at quarterback while Ponder developed–but that plan clearly backfired right off the bat.
