Despite a 4-1 start, nobody saw the San Diego Chargers as true contenders and their recent six-game losing streak is the perfect example as to why that’s the case. With five games remaining, it’s obvious there will be plenty of changes during the offseason and from what it seems like–it appears there’s a good chance Norv Turner could finally be on his way out as head coach.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Chargers President Dean Spanos believes he has “no choice” but to part ways with Turner at the end of the season and there’s a good chance General Manager A.J. Smith could be joining him as well. At 4-7, San Diego has been one of the biggest disappointments in 2011 and considering how many times this team was hyped up to be strong contenders–it’s clear there’s a need for change within the organization.

Turner helped the Chargers reach the playoffs in each of his first three seasons at head coach, but he was never able to get the team over the hump by reaching the Super Bowl. Even New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan acknowledged a couple of weeks ago how San Diego would have won the Super Bowl by now with the right head coach considering all of the talent they’ve had over the last couple of years–so let’s hope this change is exactly what the team needs.
