Top 5 Fantasy Football Busts For 2013 NFL Season; Andre Johsnon On the Decline?

Top 5 Fantasy Football Busts For 2013 NFL Season; Andre Johsnon On the Decline?
The Star Ledger - USA TODAY SPORTS

It has been quite some time since Andre Johnson wasn't the Houston Texans lone star. However, Johnson is starting to fade out of the Texas-sized spotlight surrounding the Texans. With that being said, many fantasy football owners are oblivious to the fact that Johnson has lost a step over the years. Therefore, it's your job to steer clear of bust candidates this year and let your friends be the ones to snag the over-hyped players around the NFL.

I don't call a player a bust if he's drafted after the 13th round because at that point you're just taking a shot in the dark. Instead, it's the guys selected in the money rounds who really earn the "bust" label.

For instance, the hype surrounding Maurice Jones-Drew last season was rather high and he finished the year with one freaking touchdown!

If you're trying to avoid this year's MJD, you must stay away from players who find themselves low on the depth chart. In addition, guys who have yet to prove themselves or have injury concerns should be avoided at costs.

At the end of the day, fantasy football is all about value, so don't reach for a one-hit wonder like Kyle Rudolph at your draft. On the contrary, look for the next Rudolph as he is in this year's drat, but you just need to find him. Thus, the beauty of fantasy football is revealed.

Here's a short list of five fantasy football busts, who are sure to disappoint in 2013.

No. 5 Fantasy Football Bust: Eddie Lacy

No. 5 Fantasy Football Bust: Eddie Lacy
Benny Sieu - USA TODAY SPORTS

Drafting a Green Bay Packers running back just doesn't make much sense. If Eddie Lacy establishes himself in 2013 then maybe he'll be a decent pick later on down the line, but this just isn't the season to draft a rookie running back. In case you've forgotten, the Packers' offense doesn't run through anyone else but Aaron Rodgers, so don't even waste your time with Lacy.

No. 4 Fantasy Football Bust: Kyle Rudolph

No. 4 Fantasy Football Bust: Kyle Rudolph
Bruce Kluchkhohn - USA TODAY SPORTS

I don't care if Kyle Rudolph helped you win your fantasy football league last year. This is 2013 and the third-year tight end isn't surprising anyone this time around. Instead of wasting a top draft pick on Rudolph, dig deep and take a chance on a rookie like Tyler Eifert.

No. 3 Fantasy Football Bust: David Wilson

No. 3 Fantasy Football Bust: David Wilson
The Star Ledger - USA TODAY SPORTS

The David Wilson hype train is starting to get a little overpowered. I get it -- he's the New York Giants opening-day starter at running back...so what? Wilson's rookie year was hardly impressive, so I don't know why he's been going as early as the third round in most drafts. A sleeper candidate with the G-Men is Andre Brown, who appears to be the Giants' goal-line option once again.

No. 2 Fantasy Football Bust: Robert Griffin III

No. 2 Fantasy Football Bust: Robert Griffin III
Geoff Burke - USA TODAY SPORTS

Just in the case that you forgot about one of the most gruesome injures in the NFL recent history, Robert Griffin III is playing on a torn ACL in 2013. Therefore, he's not going to have the seven rushing touchdowns that he had in his rookie season. Griffin is getting drafted where a top-notch quarterback should be and a bad wheel is going to keep Griffin relegated to the pocket in 2013. Expect RG3 to be a dud for the Washington Redskins this year.

No. 1 Fantasy Football Bust: Andre Johnson

No. 1 Fantasy Football Bust: Andre Johnson
Troy Taormina - USA TODAY SPORTS

Johnson was dynamite for the Texans in 2009 when he led the entire NFL in receiving yards, but the father time is undefeated and Johnson is about to hit the decline. The 10-year veteran has put way too many miles on his body and it finally going to catch up to him. He may be a consummate pro on and off of the field, but Johnson isn't getting any younger and the Texans' offensive plans have shifted away from big No. 80.
