Week 22 Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: Large Leagues
Joe Nicholson-US PRESSWIRE

The fantasy baseball playoffs are about to begin, making this the most important free agent period of the year.  To help you gain an edge over your competition, here are my fantasy baseball week 22 waiver wire pickups for large leagues:

Large Leagues 10-14 Man Leagues

C Geovany Soto, Texas Rangers – Soto is starting to hit in Texas, and with Mike Napoli on the Disabled List, the veteran will play on a daily basis.

1B Brett Wallace, Houston Astros – All Wallace does is hit home runs, so it is surprising that it took Houston so long to get him back to the major league level.  He has 6 homers in only 36 games and the 26-year is showing true opposite field power.

2B Mark Ellis, Los Angeles Dodgers – Ellis has racked up 8 hits in the last six games and the veteran is a quality 2B to grab off the waiver wire heading into the playoffs.

3B Pedro Alvarez, Pittsburgh Pirates – The Bucos are letting Alvarez swing at everything that comes across the plate.  Alvarez has hit 3 home runs and driven in 7 runs over the last two games and will be a great waiver wire option at the end of the year.

SS Everth Cabrera, San Diego Padres – Cabrera has finally come out of his mid-season slump.  In his last nine games Cabrera has amassed 12 hits, 5 stolen bases, and 4 walks.

OF Will Venable, San Diego Padres – Venable has an amazing 16 hits in his last nine games.

OF Brett Jackson, Chicago Cubs – The rookie has really matured over the last couple weeks.  He has blasted 3 home runs in his last six games and is finally showing his 30HR-30SB potential.

SP Hisashi Iwakuma, Seattle Mariners – Iwakuma has only allowed one run in his last three starts and has lowered his ERA to a very respectable 3.40.  He has become a strong number two option behind team ace, Felix Hernandez.

SP Joe Kelly, St. Louis Cardinals – Kelly is back in the Cards’ starting rotation after Lance Lynn was finally kicked out.  Kelly has a strong 3.26 ERA and the rookie is a solid option in weeks where he gets two starts.

RP Andrew Bailey, Boston Red Sox – In his first game coming off suspension, Alfredo Aceves, completely melted down.  Aceves lost another game for the Bo-Sox, all but giving the ball to Bailey in the ninth inning.  Bailey will be a great free agent to grab heading into the playoffs, because if he can maintain his control, Bailey will be a great fantasy closer in Boston.
