The Fantasy Football Emergence Of Andy Dalton

Raj Mehta-US PRESSWIRE

Not many people imagined  Cincinnati Bengals’ quarterback Andy Dalton would be tied for fifth in the NFL with 12 passing touchdowns through the first six weeks of the season.  However, Dalton has done exactly that and shockingly outscored Tom Brady, Eli Manning, and Philip Rivers so far this fantasy season, which no one could have foreseen.

Through the first six games Dalton has thrown 12 touchdowns and added another one on the ground, while also throwing for a staggering 1,726 passing yards. However, the most shocking statistic for Dalton is not his lofty touchdown totals, but actually his amazing 66% completion percentage.  He is making the smart plays and not forcing the ball.  He has thrown 9 interceptions, but at last three of them have been tipped near the line of scrimmage.

Dalton has also built an amazing rapport with fellow sophomore, A. J. Green, as the duo connected on a touchdown in each of the team’s first six games.  They are becoming the most dangerous quarterback-wide receiver duo in the NFL, as they both have complete faith in the other to make plays.

Dalton’s stats may be a little staggered since half of his touchdowns came in his two games against the less than stellar Cleveland Brownsbut Dalton still has several easy games ahead of him on the schedule. Cincinnati still plays the New York Giants, Denver Broncos, and Oakland Raiders in the near future, all three of which are in the bottom half of the league in pass-defense.  These are some games were Dalton can put up some very nice fantasy numbers, only adding to his fantasy value down the stretch.

Dalton has matured into a mid-level starter this season, despite being drafted as a backup in nearly every single type of league.  He has become a very reliable fantasy starter and owners should feel confident to start him for the rest of the year.
