2013 Fantasy Baseball: Matt Harvey Is The Next Fantasy Ace

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Mets have had a several strong fantasy baseball aces over the last 20-plus years. Guys like Doc Gooden, Pedro Martinez, Johan Santana, and R.A. Dickey have all been staples of fantasy rotations and have become household names in the process.

The next great fantasy arm to add to that list is the young right-hander, Matt Harvey.

Harvey is just 24 years old, but already has the command of a pitcher entering his prime. He is currently tied for the National League lead with four wins and has been absolutely untouchable this year, as opposing batters are hitting just .122 against the fireballer.

The former North Carolina Tar Heel has pitched 29 innings so far through 2013 and has a near spotless 1.43 ERA with a 0.69 WHIP. He has lasted at least six innings in each start and the righty has a jaw-dropping 10.62 K/9. He has quickly proved that he can be a future workhorse for the Mets.

Harvey’s worst outing of the year was this past week against the  Los Angeles Dodgers. He lasted just six innings, allowed three earned runs, and didn’t factor into the final decision. However, the ace still struck out seven batters, only allowed five base runners, and did it all while throwing just 90 pitches.

This kid’s stuff is simply nasty. His fastball can back any hitter off the plate and his slider has some of the best action in the game. Harvey even out dueled Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg last week, which will no doubt be the first of many meetings between the two aces.

Harvey has publically stated that he wants to be the best pitcher of All-Time and the fireballer is off to a pretty good start. He is absolutely the arm to trade for in any dynasty league, because this star has an amazing fantasy career in front of him.
