No surprise here–Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay announced that quarterback Peyton Manning will miss the entire 2011 season while recovering from a neck injury, according to WISH-TV in Indianapolis. The news came during a breakfast meeting with Super Bowl donors on Monday morning.

The Colts have been hesitant to put Manning on injured reserve with the hope there was the slightest chance he would be able to return at some point for the 2011 season–but the injury is clearly preventing him from doing so. Manning is one of the most competitive players in the NFL and he’s been doing everything in his power to play this season–including flying overseas to give stem-cell therapy a shot.

Manning’s absence has been felt over the first three games considering Indianapolis is off to an 0-3 start on top of Kerry Collins struggling to fit into the offense. Expectations for a possible return for Manning weren’t high to begin with–so this news shouldn’t come as a surprise for the Colts and their fans.
