Now is the Best Time for Todd Helton to Miss Games due to Injury

The standard response to someone having to possibly go to the 15-day disabled list in Major League Baseball is negative. In general a team doesn’t want to do without their player for a couple of weeks and who could blame them. Nagging injuries do occur however. The Colorado Rockies have just such a case rising in their veteran first baseman Todd Helton.

Helton injured his forearm on a swing where his hand came off of the bat. For now he has missed three games and looks like he might need a stint on the disabled list. Unlike the normal circumstance, that wouldn’t be too bad right now for the Rockies. They are playing very well and have a little lead in the National League West. One thing you don’t want is for a nagging injury to settle in and becoming a more serious one. That is very possible considering the age of the veteran first baseman.

Considering he has already missed three games, they could make his DL stint retroactive back to the first game he missed and it wouldn’t be very long at all. That way he could get healthy and hopefully stay that way instead of having a forearm issue all season long. They will miss him but not too much. Helton himself doesn’t even seem that worried about it. Neither should the Rockies be. He should be able to miss a few games, take some time off basically, and come back to the first place team he loves to play for.
