Tennessee Titans vs. San Diego Chargers NFL Week 2 Preview

Tennessee Titans Home Opener

The Tennessee Titans have never beaten the San Diego Chargers. The last time the franchise won a game was in 1992, when the team was in Houston as the Oilers. Could 2012 be the turning point for them?

This AFC matchup is going to be critical to both teams. The only team to rush fewer yards last week than Tennessee was San Diego. So while both teams still need to do a lot of work, the records of (1-0, 0-1) really are not going to do anyone justice at this point. The only team in the AFC South to start week two with a winning record is the Houston Texans, one of the Titans biggest challenges last year.

For Tennessee it’s going to be the opposite problem that they had last week, where they were worried about the New England Patriots and their offense. This week, the offenses are pretty even. The Chargers’ defense though is going to be tough. Thus, making it yet again another challenge for rookie quarterback Jake Locker.

Philip Rivers wasn’t a huge threat last week to the Oakland Raiders. He completed 24 passes for 231 yards. He’s too looking to improve on his 2011 season that included 25 turnovers and 20 interceptions.

What the Titans need to do is make sure that they throw the ball around, not just to one person. It sounds like a broken record but Locker has options. He has Nate Washington (hopefully), Chris Johnson and finally this week it’s looking like he will be able to throw to Kenny Britt.

Locker really needs to utilize all of his options, there will be no fooling the Chargers in week two and the Titans can’t afford to start 0-2 especially against AFC teams.
