At Very Least, New York Jets Offensive Line Should Be Good after NFL Draft

The Star Ledger-USA Today Sports

Well, the initial thought New York Jets fans should be thinking is, at least they are solidifying the offensive line.

The Jets drafted three offensive guards in this years NFL draft, in Brian Winters, Will Campbell, and Oday Aboushi. The feeling is that Aboushi could beat out Austin Howard for the right tackle position, and Winters and Campbell will learn behind veterans Willie Colon and Stephen Peterman.

Drafting three straight offensive lineman is not intriguing , nor are they “sexy” picks, but you can make an argument that they are the right picks. While many would have liked the Jets to grab a playmaking wide receiver, tight end, or running back, solidifying the offensive guard/tackle positions is a good idea in the long run.

While there were some stud skill position players in the draft, next years draft is looking much better for those types of players, and the Jets really need to establish an offensive line that has lost its identity in the past few years.

Winters, Aboushi, and Campbell are all good offensive line prospects, but many analysts and fans wanted to see them pick up weapons for whoever the quarterback may be. While in some respects you definitely can agree with thaat quarrel, you can understand where the Jets are coming from.

Loosing Brandon Moore and Matt Slauson was tough, and with the Wayne Hunter situation last year, the offensive line has been a group that needs a boost. That is why the Jets improved their o-line, and hey, maybe it is also a foreshadowing on who the quarterback will be come week one.
