Is Now the Time For the New York Giants to Be Concerned Over Victor Cruz?

It’s been an interesting offseason for the New York Giants as they continue to try and work out a deal with wide receiver Victor Cruz–who has been fighting for a long-term contract before the 2013 season. It seemed like working out a deal with Cruz wouldn’t be an issue, but with training camp right around the corner–it may be time for the Giants to be concerned over how long this process has taken.

Over the last two seasons, Cruz has emerged as one of the most dangerous wide receivers in the NFL as he’s quickly become one of Eli Manning‘s favorite targets and it’s no secret how important it is for him to be ready for the start of the regular season. Cruz never made a big deal about his contract heading into the 2012 season, but the fact that it’s taken this long for the two parties to work out a deal is a huge reason for concern.

If anything, Cruz should have accepted the offer from the Giants in which he would have made around $7 million per season–mainly because the argument can be made that’s the perfect price for him. Cruz may have emerged as one of the league’s top wideouts over the last two seasons, but he still has plenty to prove compared to some of the other wide receivers in the league.

The longer Cruz is out, the more reason for concern there is on the Giants end when it comes to Cruz being good to go for the start of the regular season and for the sake of the Giants–let’s hope these two parties can figure out a deal some time soon.
