In what should be a battle on Monday Night Football, Week 3 features one team coming off a huge win while the other is coming off one of the worst losses in recent memory. Needless to say, the Chicago Bears came off a stunning rally victory over the San Francisco 49ers, while the New York Jets can thank a major miscommunication on their sideline involving a timeout for their recent loss. Regardless, both teams will now face each other on the big stage and that should make it a good game considering what each team brings to the table.
The Jets should easily win the battle of the trenches as they play a ground-and-pound style of football. The Bears on the other hand rely more on their passing game to dissect defenses when quarterback Jay Cutler has enough time in the pocket. Since the Jets also boast a terrific run-stopping defense, the Bears will ditch their rushing attempts to exploit their major weakness at cornerback.
Keep in mind though, the Jets should be able to rush Cutler and make him force passes, which might cause some frustration on the Bears’ offense. One of his favorite targets so far this season, Santonio Holmes, should be poised to have a huge game against his former team.
The wide receiver many dubbed as a diva in his tenure with the Jets, Holmes will surely look to get revenge on his old team for parting ways with him this past offseason. Holmes is said to be a centerpiece on their offense and has done well so far with his new team. Games against your old team usually showcase big numbers as Holmes should make some big plays down the field to burn the Jets in more ways than one.
Since the Bears won’t have the answers to stop the potent running game, the Jets will deploy against them. Expect a big game out of running back Chris Johnson. He had one of his worst games of his career last week against the Green Bay Packers and will look to bounce back with a strong game this time around.
In what should be a tight matchup, it looks like the Jets should squeak out a victory thanks to a game-winning Nick Folk field goal.
Week 3 Final Score Prediction: Jets 24, Bears 21
