In the NFL, the difference between a 4-3 record as opposed to a 3-4 record is massive. With both the Houston Texans and Pittsburgh Steelers entering Monday night’s Week 7 affair at 3-3, one team will be sent home, sorely disappointed.
After starting the season 3-1, the Texans have now lost two consecutive games, and have been left searching for answers. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has played as advertised, making plays happen; but he is simply not an elite option. Houston does have Arian Foster running his best in two years, and will need that to continue to take pressure off the passing game.
J.J. Watt leads Houston’s defense and is arguably the MVP of the league thus far. There is an argument to be made that Watt is the most dominant player, not only on the defensive side, but in all of football. He will need to continue to create havoc in order to set the tone for the rest of the team. If the statement is true that a “team is only as good as its best player,” then the Texans need to follow Watt’s lead because he continues to play at an elite level.
Pittsburgh heads into Week 7 dead last in the NFC North. They have failed to put together consecutive wins yet this season, and are coming off a brutal performance against the Cleveland Browns. The offense is not clicking, and the defense seems to be in a transition year. With all of this going on, it is no surprise to find the Steelers are struggling.
The Steelers have the pieces on offense to thrive, but are not getting the job done. Antonio Brown is one of the best wide receivers in the game, and Le’Veon Bell has taken a major step forward in 2014. Ben Roethlisberger needs rookie Markus Wheaton to step up his game so he can take pressure off the other playmakers on the offensive side of that ball. If that happens, Pittsburgh will have a chance to get back on track.
Final Prediction: Pittsburgh just has too many questions at this point in time, and as a result Houston will come into Heinz Field and steal the win, 23-17.
