Nick Emery, the Lone Peak (Highland, UT) guard was one of the best shooters in high school basketball last year. USATodayhss.com recently announced that he was named the Gatorade High School Basketball Player of the Year in Utah.

“He has such unbelievable range, and if you get too close to him he’ll go right by you,” said Scott Briggs, head coach at rival West Jordan (Utah). “He’s phenomenal in the open floor and he has a mid-range game, too. He’s been so good for so long.”

The Knights went 26-1 last year and won a Class 5A state title in Utah. If he can bring that kind of winning to the Brigham Young University Cougars, then Cougar nation will be happy indeed.

He averaged 17.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.8 steals per game on the season, and his sharp shooting closed out many of the Knights’ games. Can he be the missing piece for the Cougars though? That all depends if they are able to get Emery to his spots on the floor where he is comfortable draining shots. That will be more difficult at the next level, but Emery should find success in certain games next year.

He will definitely help the Cougars with floor spacing and head coach Dave Rose will definitely be happy to have Emery on the court.
