Junior Justice Winslow Wins Texas’ Gatorade High School Basketball Player of the Year

Dave Daniels- Rant Sports

Justise Winslow was earlier this spring named Gatorade’s High School Basketball player of the year in Texas. USATodayhss.com broke the news. I was surprised to learn this, because Julius Randle also plays in Texas; Randle being sidelined by injury for most of the year may have been part of it, but Winslow is truly deserving himself.

“Justise was the best player in the state of Texas this season,” said Wayne Jones, head coach of rival Episcopal School (Houston, TX) to USATodayhss.com. “Justise led his team in every statistical category, but more importantly he trusted his teammates and made them better, like great players do. He is the closest player to LeBron James I’ve seen on the high school level.”

The LeBron James comparison might be taking it a bit far, but Winslow has a complete game that should not be overlooked; he is currently uncommitted, but it will be a big deal for whatever college basketball program lands him.

Winslow will have a shot at being a two time winner of the Gatorade award next year; he might even be in the running for National player of the year as well, but that remains to be seen.

He averaged 28.6 points, 15.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.7 steals and 1.5 blocks last season and he will likely be leaned on for even more production next year.
