Ryback vs Cena Extreme Rules

The highly anticipated Extreme Rules match between John Cena and Ryback has been announced as a “Last Man Standing” match.

The announcement was made on Monday Night Raw and is an interesting match choice for these two. Even though I expected Cena to retain his title, this match choice makes me feel there is a good chance that Ryback could cause a real big upset. Not to mention, things might be different if Ryback were to become WWE Champion.

The reason I feel there is a good chance that Ryback could win is because Cena is legitimately injured. Cena’s achilles is hurting right now and WWE could make a great storyline with the fact that it will be hard for him trying to “stand up” during the match.

If you’re unfamiliar with a “Last Man Standing” match, the winner has to beat his opponent senseless until they cannot stand up to the count of 10. WWE could let Ryback win the match so that Cena can rest up. Cena has been wrestling non-stop since November 2008 and is in need of a good rest.

One reason that Cena will win is the fact that WWE is short on main event stars at the moment. CM Punk is already out of action for several months and part time workers Brock Lesnar, The Rock and The Undertaker cannot cover for injured stars all of the time.

I’m happy the match type is a “Last Man Standing” contest and not an “I Quit” match. “I Quit” matches are usually predictable when Cena is involved because WWE refuses to make him “quit” as it will contradict his image.
