The heyday of managers in pro wrestling may be behind us, but that gives us all the more reason to count down the top 10 of all time!

10 - Bill Alfonso

From referee to overbearing manager, ECW's Bill Alfonso blew that whistle, riled up the crowd and led his men into battle. His most notable clients were Taz (in the video) as well as the tag team of RVD and Sabu. Many fans also remember him for his feud with Tommy Dreamer's wife Beulah, which culminated in a manager vs. non-wrestler match that went far and above everybody's expectations of what that match could be.

9 - Slick

The WWF's first African-American manager, Slick is most remembered for his "Jive Soul Bro" song and music video and outlandish (and loud) exploits. He managed The Twin Towers of Big Bossman and Akeem "The African Dream," and is responsible for turning the feared One Man Gang into the gigantic white man who believed he was a dancing and jiving black man straight out of the motherland itself. And by golly it worked.

8 - Captain Lou Albano

The man, simply put, was absolutely out of his mind. He managed the likes of Jimmy Snuka, The Wild Samoans, The Headshrinkers and The British Bulldogs, just to name a few. Lou Albano was a big part of the Rock 'n Wrestling Connection years with Hulk Hogan and Cyndi Lauper and had a starring role on the live action Super Mario Bros. TV series. That's my kind of guy.

7 - Paul Bearer

Longtime manager of The Undertaker and the father of Kane, the Paul Bearer character came onto the scene in the WWF as a ghostly, ghastly figure, a manager perfectly suited to lead The Dead Man to the ring and do most of his talking. Everybody remembers (and has their own impression of) the trademark extra high-pitched voice and classic facial expression. He was an integral part of the development of the character that finally helped Glen Jacobs find success in the pro wrestling business. That dentist thing just wasn't working for him.

6 - "Classy" Freddie Blassie

An old-school manager, Hall-of-Famer and legend in the business, Freddie Blassie wrestled in the days of black and white TV and managed for even longer. Famous for calling opponents "Pencil neck geeks," Blassie carried around his trademark cane behind a who's who of wrestling talent. He managed Hulk Hogan before Hulkamania, Adrian Adonis, George "The Animal" Steele, Stan Hansen, The Iron Shiek and tons more.

5 - Jimmy Hart

No list of managers would be complete without "The Mouth of the South!" Jimmy and his trademark bullhorn has managed the likes of The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart) and Rhythm and Blues (Honky Tonk Man and Greg Valentine). There are few men who Hart hasn't had a hand in the cookie jar with: Hulk Hogan, Adrian Adonis, Randy Savage, Lex Luger and the list goes on. He's still pretty much anywhere in the background when you see Hulk Hogan.

4 - Sensational Sherri

The only woman on this list, Sherri's time as both a wrestler and manager was just phenomenal. She had great timing, thousands of looks and a voice that could make a hyena cry. She brought Harlem Heat to tag team glory, replaced Miss Elizabeth at the side of the Macho King and elevated Shawn Michaels after the split of The Rockers. Sherri is one of the best and most memorable wrestling characters, let alone managers, of all time.

3 - Jim Cornette

The very outspoken Southerner has been all over the wrestling world, from NWA to the WWF to WCW, TNA, Ring of Honor and beyond, always carrying his trademark tennis racket. He's a fast talker with an even quicker temper, but that has brought him great success, especially as the manager of the legendary Midnight Express.

2 - Bobby Heenan

Bobby Heenan has an amazing body of work over years and years in multiple wrestling promotions, both as a commentator and manager. He is famous for his quick wit, great comedic timing and ability to manage about a million different guys at once and never miss a beat. He led Ric Flair to the WWF Title in 1992 and managed Andre the Giant in his feud against Hulk Hogan that led to WrestleMania 3, and that is barely scratching the surface.

1 - Paul Heyman

Many people may agree and more may disagree with Heyman being on this list ahead of Bobby Heenan, but it came down to one thing: intensity. Heenan was a spectacular manager and knew how to work the crowd into a frenzy at a moment's notice. However, he didn't display the multi-talent of Heyman to play a comedic role and switch on the serious intensity that led to classic promos that will never be forgotten. Heyman is known mostly as a manager in his role as Brock Lesnar's advocate, but it's not about quantity, it's about quality; Paul Heyman's body of work is unmatched.
