Tonight’s episode of Raw should shape up to be an odd sight to behold. Last week, we were “treated” with appearances from Hoda and Kathie Lee Gifford, and this week’s celebrity is Chris Christie. Why on earth the WWE feels like it needs to bring in these people, I have no idea.
I get that having certain names come onto the product creates buzz in mainstream media … or at least it used to. There may be some chatter about these appearances, but I don’t think we’re in a time where people really care anymore. Fox News is not going to cover Raw because a reality star or newscaster went on the show. Where they go with Christie, I’m not sure; I think he’ll probably be the next in line to talk about donating to the cause of fighting breast cancer, but who’s butt will he smash a wine bottle on?
A WWE Hall Of Famer will be making his first appearance on Raw since August: Ric Flair. Flair was supposed to show up at NXT Takeover 2 back on September 11, but ended up having to have surgery and missed the taping. WWE talked about having him set up the debut of Hideo Itami, but having him just randomly show up is quite odd. It’s more odd when you think about what he may do.
There’s not really anyone for him to talk about or to help boost, not to mention he’s not medically cleared and can’t be attacked — so what do they do with The Nature Boy? I think the only logical thing is to have Rusev and Lana come out to show their disgust for a returning legend, especially after getting beaten down and embarrassed by the last one that showed up on Raw.
This should be where Big Show shows up, takes Rusev out and celebrates with Flair. But let’s hope Rusev gains his composure, gets up and super kicks Big Show into oblivion just so Rusev isn’t getting shown up every week.
It’s said that Vince McMahon bitterly hated the Roman Reigns vignette from last week, and I think practically every fan can side with him on this one. Luckily, I think this means we won’t be hearing from Reigns again until he’s ready to come back, which is what should have happened from the start.
The last big thing of note is the most obvious one: John Cena vs. Dean Ambrose. This rivalry is becoming terrific to see not because it’s Cena, but because they play off of each other incredibly well. I doubt they’ll have a match prior to Hell In A Cell, so we should just see them go at one another like we saw at the end of both Raw and Smackdown last week.
The Authority is firmly believing that they have the upper hand right now because they managed to get the two good guys to go after one another rather than focusing their energy on the bad guys. I think this continues tonight, and they don’t fully realize what’s going on until next week, when they will join forces and put the fear of God into The Authority. They’ll still attempt to tear each other apart at HIAC for the right to face off against Seth Rollins, but they’ll stop fighting amongst themselves and focus their energy on the real enemy.
I wonder how this is all making Rollins feel, because he’s being built up as the certified top heel in the company. However, more curious is how Randy Orton is taking all of this. Whoever wins the HIAC match will get to face Rollins, and whoever loses will take on Orton. Will The Viper take kindly to being the consolation prize?
