Carol and Mark Davis–Wife and Son of Al Davis–Named Owners of Oakland Raiders
(Kirby Lee/US PRESSWIRE)

There have been plenty of questions surrounding who will take over as owner of the Oakland Raiders after the tragic news of Al Davis passing away on Saturday. Now, it appears the team will stay within the family.

According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com, Carol and Mark Davis–the wife and son of Al–will take over as owners for the Raiders. Florio explained the details of the ownership on Sunday considering many wondered if Carol and Mark would be forced to sell the team after the unexpected passing of Davis–but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

From Florio’s article:

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, thorough and detailed estate and succession planning ensures that the team will be owned by the wife and son of Al Davis:  Carol Davis and Mark Davis.  They can’t be forced to sell by their partners, by the league, or by operation of law.

As it relates to the other partners, the team operates as a limited partnership, with the Davis family being the sole and complete owner of the sole general partner.  Under the law of limited partnerships, that gives the Davis family full control over the business.  And there’s no path to control held by any of the other partners based on the passing of Al Davis.

As Florio points out, Carol–who was married to Al for over 50 years–and Mark–who is already in his 50′s–are showing no signs of wanting to sell the team. Hopefully, the two of them find more success than Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown–who took over the team in 1991 when his father Paul passed away.
