Report: Arizona Wins the Rights to Host Super Bowl XLIX in 2015
While their team is off to a disappointing 1-4 start to the 2011 season, here’s something Arizona Cardinals fans can look forward to–the team will host Super Bowl XLIX in 2015.
According to Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk.com, the owners selected Arizona as the location over Tampa Bay on Monday with the game being played at University of Phoenix Stadium. Glendale was the location for Super Bowl XLII between the New York Giants and New England Patriots in 2008–which was arguably one of the most exciting finishes to a Super Bowl in NFL history.
Of course, the main question now is whether or not the Cardinals will be good enough by then for a chance to become the first team in NFL history to play in the Super Bowl they were hosting. Expectations were high after the acquisition of Kevin Kolb–but this team still has plenty of work to do before they can be placed in the category of Super Bowl contenders.
On the bright side, at least Super Bowl XLIX is still over three years away–so that’s plenty of time for Arizona to get their act together.
