After a solid performance by both quarterbacks in the Seattle Seahawks opener, head coach Pete Carroll has decided to stay with last week’s routine and start quarterback Matt Flynn against the Denver Broncos this Saturday.

Rookie Russell Wilson will come in to start the second half while it looks like last year’s starter, Tavaris Jackson, will sit out another game. After seeing Jackson for the majority of last season, Carroll is more focused on seeing what his new quarterbacks are capable of before making a decision on the starter.

Giving Flynn his second start of the season against a strong defensive team like Denver demonstrates the confidence Carroll has in his new quarterback. Flynn will face a fierce secondary led by veteran cornerback Champ Bailey, which will give him the chance to prove to his coach that he deserves the starting role in Seattle.

The Seahawks will have to perform better on the offensive line coming up against a strong Bronco’s pass rush in defensive end Elvis Dumervil and linebacker Von Miller. Seattle allowed two sacks against the Tennessee Titans defense and will have to improve against a better, stronger unit in Denver.

Along with stopping the pass rush, run blocking will be a key part for the Seahawks to end the night with a consecutive win. With running backs like Marshawn Lynch, Leon Washington and Robert Turbin, Seattle has the potential to put up big numbers on the ground if the line can do their part.

Seattle’s defense will also be challenged facing an elite quarterback in Peyton Manning for the short time he is in. The Seahawks secondary flourished last week coming up with two interceptions and a defensive score. If they can continue this success throughout the year, Seattle will have a great chance to take a division plagued with mediocre quarterbacks.

The Seahawks success on offense will be determined Saturday night by how well they win the battle in the trenches as the defense tries to hold off a Bronco’s offense led by Manning and running back Willis McGahee.
