NBA Rumors: Dallas Mavericks Favorites To Sign Dwight Howard In 2013
Howard Smith - US PRESSWIRE

The NBA rumors around Dwight Howard are going to continue until something happens.  If the Orlando Magic decide not to move the big man this year, a new team could get into the free agent race in the summer of 2013.  That team would be the Dallas Mavericks.

If Howard gets to free agency in '13 without having been traded to Nets or Lakers, Dallas is overwhelming favorite to sign him, sources say.

Howard's camp has consistently warned Houston not to trade for him, that he'd march right into Dallas' cap space next summer.

See, this has been the plan in Dallas all along.  If you look at the moves they made this past offseason, none of the moves tie up a bunch of money long term.  They plan on wooing Howard to Dallas with a max contract and the ability to build around him.  Smart thinking on their part.

The NBA rumors around Howard change by the day.  The Mavericks may very well be in the best spot to get him since he wants to explore free agency.  They are on level playing field with everyone else and they do not have to give up any assets for him.  It is a perfect scenario for that team.

If the Mavericks strike out on Howard, it looks like their plan may have been for naught.  They have set up their cap space and team idea in order to get that one big superstar.  It looks like Howard would be the only who would decide to come to Dallas if the chance came.  People can speculate that the Mavericks would be the favorites simply because Howard doesn’t know what he wants for breakfast, much less his future.  If you have the space, you can get Dwight.
