Fantasy Football 2012: Dez Bryant Owners Beware
Matthew Emmons-US PRESSWIRE

There are a lot of red flags that pop up when considering draftingDallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant into your fantasy football league. Bryant’s long list of troubles off the field may very well outweigh his productivity on it. With the recent news that authorities are going to pursue criminal charges against Bryant for allegedly slapping his mother on on July 16th, there may be yet another hurdle for this talented young wide out to overcome.

By this time in his career, one who hope to see Bryant evolving into a team-leader. Even though he’s only 23 years old, the Cowboys first round pick in 2010 hasn’t shown much growth or maturity at all since becoming a pro. If anything, Bryant has seemed to revert in attitude and personal choices. The Cowboys are well known for taking chances on talented and risky players, (see Terrell Owens) but it may not be the best idea for you to take that same chance with your fantasy team.

Don’t let Dez Bryant’s highlight reel fool you into taking him with an early draft pick. Bryant’s highest yardage total last season was only 90 yards on five receptions. He is a big play receiver who eats up large chunks of yardage at a time, but he is also a boom or bust type player that could show up or shut down at any given time. The Cowboys’ biggest win of 2011, an overtime victory against the San Francisco 49ers, came in a game where Bryant didn’t even play. In fact, Bryant only played in seven games total last season.

Not only could Bryant be facing further legal issues, he may also soon feel the wrath of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. On top of that, who knows when and where Bryant’s next trouble may arise.
