During a very ugly year last season for the Indianapolis Colts, running backs Delone Carter and Donald Brown carried most of the load for them. Carter was a pretty last season, being a fourth-round pick by Indy in the NFL Draft last year. However, things could change for young man this season, as he could be without a team, according to CBS Sports.

With Mewelde Moore and rookie Vick Ballard already and so far doing good for the Colts in the pre-season, Carter could see himself as the odd man out. Carter hasn’t done a lot this pre-season, although he does fit offensive coordinator Bruce Arians‘ style of offense. However, he will need to producing fast.

He may not get his chance at all, sadly, as he will be ruled inactive against the Washington Redskins Saturday. However, it seems most likely the Carter may stay on the roster just for depth, but his playing time will be in major question. But don’t be surprised if he’s cut.

CBS Sports also ruled safety Jermale Hines and linebacker Tim Fugger as guys who could get the boot out of Indy:

Jermale Hines (S, 2nd year, fifth round pick in 2011) — Hines was originally drafted by the Rams, but he spent five games in Indianapolis last season before being cut. Hines was re-signed from the Panthers practice squad late last season and seemed to be in line to backup Antoine Bethea at free safety. A solid outing last week by Latarrius Thomas and a defensive backfield in flux may have been the recipe for Hines’ demise.

Tim Fugger (LB, rookie, transitioning from defensive end to outside linebacker) — The first-year player from Vanderbilt seemed to have a great shot of making the team prior to camp’s beginning, but injuries have hindered his progress. He was recently activated off the PUP list and is expected to play Saturday against the Redskins. Fugger is stuck behind Jerry Hughes and Robert Mathis on the depth chart, which is not a great place to be. Hughes has been very good in two preseason games, and Mathis will be the starter. Fugger may be able to get a roster spot if he can prove his mettle on special teams.
