Hungarian fighter Attila Vegh will have his chance to capture his first major championship as he collides with Travis Wuiff in the finals of Bellator’s Summer Series 2012 Light Heavyweight tournament tonight at Bellator 73 .

According to his Bellator profile, Vegh is 27-4-2 and trains with the Octagon Fighting Academy.

Although Wuiff has twice as many wins as Vegh does fights and a victory over the current Bellator Light Heavyweight champion Christian M’Pumbu, the Hungarian is a riding a seven-fight winning streak. By defeating Wuiff, Vegh would not only claim the tournament championship and a check for $100,000, but also he would earn a chance to face M’Pumbu for the light heavyweight title. .

Vegh made his mixed martial arts debut back in 2008, winning his first nine fights. These wins included a 55 second TKO win over Matyas Levante and a 12 second knockout against Lukas Turecek.

In 2010, Vegh participated in the Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki promotion’s light heavyweight tournament. While Vegh defeated Lukasz Skibski in the quarterfinals by way of TKO with seven seconds in the first round, he would go down to Daniel Tabera in the semifinals after Tabera submitted him with a knee bar with three seconds left in the first round. This would be the third defeat in Vegh’s career.

According to Sherdog.com, Vegh would go 6-1-1 in his next eight fights, including a decision victory over current Cage Light Heavyweight champion Marcus Vänttinen and a submission win over Jonas Billstein. Billstein was undefeated before his match with Vegh.

After spending much of his career competing in Europe, Vegh would join Vänttinen and Billstein as he signed with Bellator in 2011. Vegh made his debut at Bellator 66 against NAAFS Light Heavyweight champion Dan Sphon.

On the same night where Vänttinen lost his Bellator debut John Hawk by way of split-decision, Vegh would win his fight by split-decision.

Vegh’s next Bellator match would be in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Summer Series as he faced former Cage Rage Middleweight champion and Dream 2008 Middleweight Grand Prix Semi-finalist Zelg Galešić. Vegh would make short work of the Galesic, submitting him with a rear naked choke 60 seconds into the first round. His next opponent in the semifinals of the tournament would be Emanuel Newton, who he defeated by split-decision.

Vegh’s fight with Wuiff is perhaps the most important of his carrer so far. If he wants to defeat Wuiff, he is going to have dig deep.
