Greg Oden Should Not Attempt Comeback

Craig Mitchelldyer-USA TODAY Sports

Greg Oden was supposed to be the next big star at the center position in the National Basketball Association when he came out of college. Oden has struggled with knee issues his entire career and has barely played. Oden though is thinking about making a comeback and that is something that sounds like a terrible idea to me.

Oden has proved that he can’t stay healthy for any length of time with the knee problems. I don’t know if they have magically fixed themselves to the point where Oden believes that he can get through an entire NBA season without a problem but it doesn’t sound good for Oden. Oden should just consider retiring from the NBA and moving on with his life. It is easier said than done obviously but this seems very necessary to me at this point. Until Oden proves he can play at a high level without any issues, I will feel this way about it.

Oden’s situation reminds me a lot of Brandon Roy, who had to retire with knee problems before attempting a comeback that hasn’t been too successful. Roy and Oden were teammates with the Portland Trail Blazers and maybe the two should have a long talk about playing with knee problems. Oden’s career seemed so promising and it has gone down in flames from day one. The time has come for the big man to sit down and really assess where his life is going and if trying to make a comeback is really worth it. I don’t see any way Oden can make this work but who knows if Oden has it in him to do it.
