Former NBA Coach Phil Jackson Reportedly “Itching” For a Comeback Opportunity

According to a report on ESPN.com — which credits sources — former NBA head coach Phil Jackson may just be “itching” for a comeback opportunity.

Jackson, who ranks amongst the greatest basketball coaches of all-time, stepped away from the sidelines following the 2010-11 season. Jackson left the Los Angeles Lakers and after two years away from the game, he might just be interested in returning to the sidelines. Jackson recently made the decision to join Twitter, so if he does decide to return to the sidelines this off-season, he’d clearly be off to a good start here in 2013.

Jackson, who is 67 years old, has won 11 NBA championships during his coaching career. While it remains to be seen if Jackson will get an opportunity to coach elsewhere, you can bet that some teams would certainly be interested depending on what changes are made. Just the other day it was reported that Philadelphia 76ers head coach Doug Collins was planning to resign following the conclusion of their season. That’s just one example of a vacancy though, there is not established connection between the two.

Of course you have the whole Lakers situation back in November when the team parted ways with Mike Brown, only to replace him with Mike D’Antoni. Jackson however — according to reports and rumors at the time — had been originally promised the job.

Either way, it will be interesting to see if Jackson returns to the sidelines this off-season or if anyone will give him the opportunity. But his successful track record speaks for itself — so why not?
