The Latest Allegations Against the Auburn Tigers Do Not Look Good

Mark J. Rebilas-US Presswire

Allegations that former Auburn Tigers football players received money and had their grades altered or changed recently surfaced and it doesn’t surprise me.

We are talking about Auburn. Don’t you remember “Scam” Newton? OK, his name is Cam Newton, but it isn’t shocking me the least bit that there are serious rumors regarding such scandal lingering around the Gene Chizik era.

The most believable allegation is that former running back Michael Dyer had his grades changed from an ineligible status just before the 2011 BCS National Championship game. Despite being an absolute stud on the football field, Dyer always had something pop up that questioned his character.

He was released from the team for undisclosed team violations. Need I say more? As a freshman he rushed for over 1,000 yards and then followed up his sophomore year with over 1,000-yards yet again. What could have been we will never know. The fact that he hasn’t even revitalized his football career should say enough, unfortunately.

What a waste.

I don’t like to believe these things when I hear them. All of these allegations have not been proven just yet and like most situations where people start dropping names and pointing fingers, you always have to let the smoke clear before you can truly get to the bottom of things.

Unfortunately, though, the shoe seems like it fits Auburn. The Cam Newton scandal put the school in jeopardy and left a suspenseful unknowing around whether or not Newton’s Heisman would remain his. Now, Auburn is staring allegations that could put their 2010 national championship trophy, banner and place in the college football record books in jeopardy.

We will see what happens after investigation but if you’re an Auburn Tigers fan this has to be the worst sports-related news you could receive, oh, and by-the-way, Alabama has won three of the last four national titles.

Hope for the best but prepare for the worst, Auburn fans.
