5 New York Giants’ Players Who Must Produce in 2013
5 Giants Players Who Must Produce in 2013
The New York Giants had a disappointing season in 2012. After a super bowl victory in 2011, they found themselves on the outside of the NFL playoffs in 2012. Their lackluster season is somewhat unsurprising when one examines the schedule that they were forced to play. However, the intention of this article is to examine five key Giants players who, for whatever reason, have not performed to the degree that they are expected to.
It is unnecessary to say that football is a team sport. Every player is dependent on the other; when one doesn’t produce on par with the rest of the team, the other 10 men on the field are affected by it. This is true for the players on this list. They are players who, despite Head Coach Tom Coughlin’s high hopes, have not been what the Giants’ brass expected.
There comes a time in every Players career when their production is not sufficient enough to retain a roster spot. For these five players, that time is imminent and their production level could mean whether or not the Giants make the playoffs.
Whether they are underachieving rookies or aging veterans, New York has expected these players to play a key role on the field. Thus far, while they showed flashes, they have not been able to put everything together. And—the NFL being an unforgiving business—their time in New York could be coming to an end if they don’t bring their game to the next level.
Prince Amukamara
New York’s first round selection in 2011, Amukamara hasn’t lived up to his fame as the second most gifted cornerback in the 2011 NFL Draft. Opposing quarterbacks have repeatedly exposed Amukamara. The young cornerback must play better if he wants to remain with the Giants in 2013.
Justin Tuck
Once a fan favorite, Tuck only had 4 sacks last year. With the emergence of Jason Pierre-Paul, Tuck is beginning to seem like a declining veteran who is dealing with injuries. The pressure will be on for him to perform in 2013, especially after the dismal pass rush that the Giants mustered in 2012.
Corey Webster
Opposing quarterbacks nearly scored a perfect QBR against him. Webster, taking a large pay cut this offseason, must provide veteran savvy if he wants to keep his job on a weak Giants cornerback roster.
