Darren McFadden is one of the few bright spots for the Oakland Raiders, but even he had a bad 2012 season. Coming off a career-low mark of 3.3 yards per carry, McFadden is looking to get back on track in 2013. One thing that will help, is that he has a new offensive coordinator. Greg Knapp is no longer in charge, and Greg Olson will now be calling the shots.
At 6’2″, 210 lbs., McFadden is no doubt a downhill type of runner, and thus why he wasn’t successful in Knapp’s zone-blocking scheme. Olson runs an offense that should fit McFadden’s style, and the running back is already excited for the new season.
“It’s a downhill offense. That’s one of the things I like about it. I’m the type of guy I like to get going downhill, so I’m looking forward to it. I think it’s going to be a great fit for our team.”
Something has to change for McFadden and this Oakland team, because what they’ve been doing, isn’t working. They must maximize the production from their talented running back, to even have a glimmer of hope in the AFC next season. There isn’t a whole lot of talent on the offense, so they need to trust a guy they know can get it done.
If something doesn’t change in 2013, it will likely be McFadden last season in Oakland, as his contract expires at the end of the year. If the upcoming season ends just like the years prior, I’m sure that will be the case.
