2013 RB Recruit Phillip Lindsay Commits to Colorado Buffaloes Then House Gets Robbed

Committing to a University and accepting a Division-I football scholarship should be one of the highlights of a young man’s life and that’s usually the case.

For Denver South High School running back Phillip Lindsay, he will always remember March 29th as the day he committed to play for the University of Colorado football program but he will also, unfortunately, remember it for another reason.

Shortly after notifying Jon Embree and the rest of the Colorado coaching staff of his intention to sign with the Buffs, Lindsay and his family went out to celebrate. When they came back they found their Denver home in disarray after it had been broken into with most of their valuables missing. Not only that, their dog Rambo had apparently been beaten with broomsticks after the suspects could not distract the pitbull-german shepard mix with hamburger meat.

Nonetheless, Lindsay was just glad that nobody in his family was harmed,

“My prize possession is my family and I’m happy that none of them got hurt,” Lindsay said. “Nobody was at the house when it happened.”

Although his day got turned upside down, Lindsay said he will forever remember the day for the good that came out out of it and the decision he made for his future. He’s very excited to help turn around a struggling program and return it to its glory days.

The Buffs are the only D-I school to offer a scholarship at this point but many other schools, including UCLA, Colorado State and Utah, have all shown interest. With that said Lindsay said the he feels comfortable with his decision and he plans on honoring his verbal commitment.

One of the reasons for his early commitment is due to his great relationship with Colorado offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. After visiting the campus a few times Lindsay said he felt at home in Boulder and his relationship with Bienemy, who would Facebook message him after every game, was a big factor in his verbal commitment.

Lindsay is rated as a 3-star prospect by most recruiting services but is rather undersized for a running back. He stands 5’9” tall and 170 pounds but to put that in perspective, Colorado’s 2nd all time rushing leader Rodney Stewart was just 5’7”. It can be done and Lindsay, who hopes to put on more weight before he arrives next year, just wants to come in and compete.

It’s good to see a recruit that puts things into perspective. Lindsay commits to CU then comes home to see his house broken into and all he can do is be glad his family was ok. He could have been upset that his gaming system and his money were gone but all he was worried about was his family’s safety. That’s a very mature reaction and I’m looking forward to seeing Lindsay suit up in the Black and Gold in 2013.
