Reasons Why Roman Reigns Is Not the Next Main Event Star

Roman Reigns is definitely on the rise and is making his way through the ranks of WWE. The company seems to have him pegged to be the next top star, but is he really the right guy?

One thing holding Roman back from being ready to make it to the upper echelon is the fact that he hasn't had a blood feud yet. He was a hired gun, then a seeker of justice and when The Shield turned face he was just awesome with a cool punch and an intense battle cry. His feud with Orton and The Authority has been based on self defense; he doesn't hate them as a whole.

Reigns is good. He has definitely made strides in the ring, but he isn't quite ready to hold his end of the bargain in a lengthy top card match. The two big matches with Orton were good, but even as boring and full of chinlocks Orton can be, he is still a veteran and knows how to carry a match. Reigns came up working tags and 6-man matches, and doesn't have a ton of singles work on a big stage. He must prove himself with a variety of opponents.

It was a great outfit to wear as a member of a rogue group. It was even fine just as the group had been shattered and he was trying to pull himself together. Now that he's on his own, though, the flak jacket look doesn't work. It looks like he is still stuck in limbo between being a member of The Shield and finding himself as a man against the world. Rollins and Ambrose have moved on. Reigns' outfit just screams midcarder.

Like everything Roman Reigns, this is a work in progress. He has improved as a speaker since the early days of The Shield, but there are times that he looks lost at the end of a promo, like he doesn't know what to do with his hands, but with words. Also, when he speaks he generally acts as though he's alone in a room with the person he's addressing. That works sometimes, but he needs to learn to harness the crowd's energy and incorporate them.

Reigns does come across like he belongs thanks to nearly two years of wrestling top stars with The Shield. The issue now, though, is that the audience pushed for him when WWE gave him a nudge in that direction after The Shield went good, but on his own he doesn't have the kind of backing that was expected. The crowd would like to see him win the title, but they would LOVE to see him win it after he spends some more meaningful time with them.
