The heavyweight division has always been one of the most entertaining weight classes in the UFC, as fighters in this division can end the fight within seconds. This was on full display when Roy Nelson knocked out Cheick Kongo at UFC 159.

It was a sterling performance for Roy, and certainly moved him right up the rankings. Also moving up the heavyweight rankings is Daniel Cormier, who expressed his interests to fight Nelson after his impressive KO victory.

On Twitter Cormier would say the following:

“Hey @danawhite ur right I think Roy nelson and I would be a damn good fight. How about it @roynelsonmma

A potential bout between these two makes perfect since right now. Cormier is also coming off a victory over Frank Mir, where he was able to use his superior grappling to force Mir up the cage each round. A bout with Nelson would certainly test his stand-up abilities. A win would move him higher up the rankings, where his training partner, Cain Velasquez, is the champion.

Cormier has said on several occasions that he is not willing to fight Velasquez, so a bout with Nelson would give him time to develop his skills and determine whether or not he wants to make the transition down to the light heavyweight division. If Cormier is able to defeat Nelson in decisive fashion, then he will keep his unbeaten record alive, making a potential bout with Jon Jones all the more intriguing.

Will Cormier get the fight he desires? Or will he wait and move down to the 205 division in hopes of challenging Jones? Stay tuned!
