Can North Carolina Tar Heels Marcus Paige Turn Into A Star Next Season?

JD Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Marcus Paige had a pretty successful freshman year for the North Carolina Tar Heels in the 2012-13 college basketball season, but can he turn into a star next season?

This will depend on many things, such as if Andrew Wiggins joins the team, but there is a definite possibility that Paige will be even better next season.

Paige averaged 8.2 points per game and 4.6 assists per game this season. He also played 29.2 minutes per game. Paige definitely has the talent to be a star for the Tar Heels, but he must improve his shot first. No matter what, he will rack up the assists next season, but he certainly has the talent to put up 10+ points per game.

With that said, North Carolina is getting back a bunch of talent from this past year’s team, including a couple of players that scored more than Paige this season.

If Wiggins does decide to join the team, most likely everyone will take a back seat to him. Wiggins is the No. 1 recruit coming into college basketball and he easily has the talent to be a star for whatever team he plays for.

Paige should get more playing time, though, which will help with his scoring. Dexter Strickland was a senior, which opens the door for Paige. This is a player that was the No. 1 point guard coming into college hoops just a season ago. There is a reason for that and although Paige had a great first year, he has yet to show that he is the best point guard in his recruiting class. However, next year could be the year that he shines.
