2013 NFL Draft: Will Florida State QB EJ Manuel Be Selected in the First Round?

(Ron Chenoy/USA Today Sports)

The 2013 NFL Draft may not have a standout quarterback guaranteed to be selected in the top five like previous years, but they certainly have plenty of quarterbacks worthy of being selected in the first round. As of now, all signs point to Geno Smith or Matt Barkley being one of the first quarterbacks, but there’s one player who has seen his stock rise over the last couple of weeks that could end up being selected earlier than expected–EJ Manuel of Florida State.

As crazy as it sounds, there’s a chance Manuel could be selected in the first round of this year’s draft considering how many teams will be looking for a quarterback to possibly build their franchise around in the future. In fact, Manuel has already discussed how teams such as the Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills, and Arizona Cardinals have already expressed interest–so there’s the chance of him being selected by one of these teams in the first round.

Of course, whether or not either of these teams select Manuel will depend on if where the other quarterbacks like Smith or Barkley are selected. There’s a good chance these two quarterbacks will be selected before Manuel, but as the draft has proven over the years–anything is possible.

If Manuel impresses certain teams enough, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they decided to give him a shot before some of the other quarterbacks from this year’s draft class for the 2013 season.
