Evander Kane Becoming Star For Winnipeg Jets

Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

It has been an interesting last few years for the Winnipeg Jets franchise, with moving from Atlanta to the travel that is now involved with their new home in an old division. Winnipeg appears to be getting relief from that next season with realignment but this year, the Jets are in a tie for first place in the Southeast Division. The Jets can thank Evander Kane for that happening with how hot he has been lately.

Kane is now leading the Jets with 18 points on the year, and in just his fourth season Kane is beginning to come into his own this year. Kane has now scored in eight straight games and has five goals over his last five games. Kane has goals in four straight games and has helped the Jets win four of their last five games. Kane is only 21 years old and while he did have 30 goals last season, Kane is on pace to score a point a game this season.

If this were a full season, Kane may have had a chance to score 35-40 goals with the way he is playing at this point. There is a lot of potential for future success in Winnipeg with this team and Kane is the main reason why the Jets will be a team that should contend for the playoffs year after year. Winnipeg has to hope now that Kane can keep doing what he has for the rest of this season with the team right on the verge of making the playoffs for the first time since moving to town. That would just get the fan base even more behind the Jets and Kane in particular.
