Guard Commit Dominique Hawkins Intriguing Prospect For Kentucky Wildcats Next Year

Rant Sports- Dave Daniels

Point guard Dominique Hawkins may not see the floor much his freshman year, but John Calipari really liked what he saw from the 6-foot-1 guard in high school.

“When I watched him play, lead his team, and play with a will to win and fight, I was totally sold,” Calipari said. “At the Sweet 16, he made sure he got his teammates involved and was always happy with their success, but when it was time to take over the game — when it was winning time — everyone in the building knew they were going to play through Dominique, which they did, and they won.”

Something tells me he wouldn’t be getting the ball as much in crunch time in Lexington, but he will still get his looks.

Hawkins, from Richmond, Kentucky, led Madison Central High School to the state championship and is the state’s Mr. Basketball. He averaged 20.4 points and 5.6 rebounds during the tournament and was named MVP.

Hawkins is in a class that features Julius Randle, Andrew Harrison, Aaron Harrison, and Dakari Johnson, so the young guard may not see the floor very much, but when he does he will play with confidence. Calipari’s class is being widely hailed as the best ever. Let’s see what they do on the court before we hand out any trophies, but they are a talented bunch and should be quite fun to watch develop on the court.
