Former Western Michigan Forward Darius Paul Transfers to Illinois Illini

Rant Sports- Dave Daniels

Western Michigan freshman forward Darius Paul will apparently take his talents to Champaign, Illinois. He announced he would join Illinois on twitter over the weekend.

Paul averaged 10.4 points and 5.7 rebounds last year and he will give head coach John Groce
He will have to sit out next season, but then he will be an option for the Illini. Paul’s older brother, Brandon Paul, recently finished his college career with the Illini.

“If Illinois wants Darius, we would be very happy to give Darius our blessings to go there,” Lynda Paul, Paul’s mother, wrote. “We love the University of Illinois and the current coaching staff.”

John Groce has done a pretty phenomenal job of recruiting players and transfers to join his team. Paul is I believe the third transfer the Illini have had and Groce put together a solid recruiting class as well that includes Simeon Academy guard Jaylon Tate.

Best of luck to Groce and the Illini last year; I remember the old Illini team with Deron Williams and Dee Brown and I will always be rooting for them to reach near that level of success again.
