Manchester United Premier League Champions Again

Manchester United have won their 20th English title after beating Aston Villa 3-0 at Old Trafford, as they bring the Premier League trophy back to the red side of Manchester.

There was a party atmosphere from the first minute at Old Trafford as Robin Van Persie opened the scoring before netting a hat trick within the first 32 minutes, which included a remarkably impressive volley for his second. It was arguably the best goal of the season, coming from an incredible pinpoint pass from Wayne Rooney who was playing in his 400th appearance for the club. The title is Ryan Giggs’ 13th League title, a feat that will surely never be beaten.

United failed to win the League last season by goal difference and the pain was evident throughout the club. During the club’s awards evening last May Sir Alex Ferguson stated that the situation would not occur again and how right he was. United have been relentless in comparison to the rest of the League and to win the division at this point with four games to go reflects that. United are now on the hunt for a new Premier League points record, starting with Arsenal away this weekend.

United’s squad has an average age of 24 which has grown in experience from last season and it is clear that the development is going to be key to a continued success. Ferguson said post match that Phil Jones could go on to be the club best ever player; some high praise but it’s also a true reflection of the talent throughout the squad and how vital the blend of experience and youth is.

United are the worthy winners of the title, they have been far ahead of their competitors. Manchester City have showed class at times but have lacked that consistency which has been so crucial in United’s quest for yet another League title.
