Last week Portland Trail Blazers rookie center Meyers Leonard who got taken with the 11th pick in the 2012 NBA draft posted a tweet that said “a moment I will never forget. By far the best surprise I’ve ever had. Hard to watch it without tearing up.#blessed.” At the end of what he wrote a link got posted to an emotional Youtube clip.

According to Leonard “He had told me he was going on a two-week mission. Little did I know my friends were working on him coming back for more than a month. It was an unbelievable moment.” Those friends made sure that he got a surprise of a lifetime as his brother who returned from Afghanistan and got to see him play in college for the first time though it also was his last home game for the University of Illinois.

Even though the game ended in a loss, Leonard had a very good game going 6-11 from the floor, 6-8 from the free throw line and finished with 18 points, 9 rebounds, an assist and a blocked shot.

His new head coach Terry Stotts said “I told my wife, who was watching the video with tears, ‘I’m glad he put that out there so that fans can see some of the struggles these players have in their lives.’”

With the tweet he has gained fans before he has played a single minute in the NBA and rightfully so and it doesn’t matter the team allegiance because it’s a great story.

A recent tweet that also is something that fans will appreciate as he came out with this “there’s nothing that makes me more mad than seeing athletes that are pricks. It’s not like were out here saving lives or teaching little kids.”

Thanks to John Castelli for the video
