Washington Wizards Post Second Lowest Local TV Ratings

The Washington Wizards finished their season as one of the better teams in the NBA. In the last 50 games of the regular season, the Wizards finished at an even 25-25. Though that’s not wildly impressive, had they maintained a .500 winning percentage for the entire season they would have made the playoffs. They were also a highly entertaining team to watch with the young duo of John Wall and Bradley Beal on the floor together.

Despite all of these things, that didn’t stop the Wizards from having the second lowest local TV ratings in the entire NBA, trailed only by the Charlotte Bobcats, per John Ourand of Sports Business Journal. Though it’s probably unfair, it’s likely that fans failed to tune in to watch the Wizards because there wasn’t much interest in the team after their 4-28 start.

It’s hard to blame fans for not wanting to watch a team that, for the first few months of the season, had the worst record in the entire league. There’s no fun in that. There’s always something that you can find to watch on TV. It’s a completely understandable thing on the surface.

However, there’s really no excuse for not watching this team once Wall returned to action. This is a team on the rise that is going to make some serious noise throughout the league over the next few years. With a young nucleus of Wall and Beal, there’s no reason to believe that they can’t make the playoffs in the near future. Local Wizards failed to watch the beginning of something good this season, hopefully they won’t miss out when it’s in full bloom over the next few years.
