Many NBA observers are predicting that the Cleveland Cavaliers pick either Nerlens Noel or Ben McLemore as the No. 1 selection, leaving the Orlando Magic with the other players.
The Magic could opt for other players they feel would fit their needs more adequately such as small forward Otto Porter.
Porter gives the Magic a lot of firepower at that position. He’s 6-foot-9 with a 7-foot-2 wing span. The advantage of Porter especially comes from the defensive side of the ball.
There’s even growing speculation that the Cavaliers are taking a stronger look at Porter.
His ability to get defensive rebounds, steals and blocks has a team like the Magic, starving for good defense, paying second notice.
He averaged 16.2 points and 7.5 rebounds a game as the Big East Player of the Year. He made plenty of strides from his freshman to sophomore season, and the safe best is he’ll be even better in his first NBA season regardless of the team.
Porter could be the Magic’s choice if the Cavaliers decide to go with McLemore. Speculation continues on Noel’s physical well-being and whether or not he’ll be able to fully recover from his injuries for a productive freshman season.
Porter has plenty of potential to develop into a steady NBA player. That’s what the Magic need. There’s not one franchise player out there in the draft this season. There’s a lot of good players who fit various needs. That’s why the Magic might wind up with Porter.
