Northeastern AD Peter Roby to Join NCAA Men’s Basketball Selection Committee

The Northeastern Huskies will have something else to celebrate at their annual men’s basketball tip-off dinner tonight.

Northeastern Athletic Director, Peter Roby, has been added to the NCAA’s Division I Men’s Basketball Selection Committee. Roby, who was the head coach at Harvard for six seasons, will fill the seat formerly held by Delaware AD Bernard Muir. Muir left his position on the selection committee and at Delaware to become the athletic director at Stanford.

As AD at Northeastern, Roby oversees Northeastern’s 18-sport, NCAA Division I athletics’ department, which competes in the Colonial Athletic Association, Hockey East Association and Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges. He also oversees Northeastern Campus Recreation, which is composed of 40 club sports, intramural sports and physical education classes for Northeastern students.

Roby, the 10th member of the committee, has been the man in charge of the Huskies’ athletic program since 2007. Besides coaching at Harvard, Roby also spent time as an assistant coach at Stanford,Dartmouth, and the U.S. Military Academy.

Roby will join LSU athletic director Joe Alleva, Utah State AD Scott Barnes, Xavier AD Mike Bobinski, Oklahoma AD Joe Castiglione, Big Sky Conference commissioner Doug Fullerton, Michigan State AD Mark Hollis, Conference USA executive associate commissioner Judy MacLeod, Wake Forest AD Ron Wellman and West Coast Conference commissioner Jamie Zaninovich on the tournament’s selection committee.

Roby and the rest of the committee are charged with the task of selecting and seeding the NCAA Tournament each season.

Roby will actively begin fulfilling his committee member duties when he attends his first committee meeting in November. The meeting will be held in Dallas.
